NCT 127 are dark and compelling in ‘Favourite (Vampire)’ music video

South Korean pop group NCT 127 is back with a brand-new single ‘Favorite (Vampire)’. The group released the repackaged version of their recently-released third studio album ‘Sticker’ with ‘Favourite (Vampire)’ as the title track, accompanied with a stunning music video.

The title track “Favorite (Vampire)” is an R&B pop dance track love song which can be characterized by its signature whistle sound and rich harmonies. The lyrics of the track dramatically portray the message that their lover is their everything and makes them happy, even when the relationship is heading towards a tragic end. Seen through the eyes of a lucid dream, all of these moments are compelling. With gold eyes and fake fangs as the keypoint of the song, the whistling sounds is heard in the eerie background, the members straight up give ‘Twilight’ era vibes.

The music video seems to take place in a spooky forest where NCT127’s members switch between two parallels– one where they are performers and the second where they exist as vampires. Comparing love to a venomous vampire bite, the lyrics narrate the tale of a romance which is destructive yet addictive. The boys harmonize in the chorus, “Call it playing with fire (Quit that) /  you have thorns (Hands down) / the fragmented crown (Take that)/ that pure poison I took a bite and swallowed it all.”

With charged emotions that make the relationship difficult to let go of, the track explains one’s desire to keep the love alive, despite its dangerous and painful consequences of an impassioned love; “I love you and love you/ I want to hurt even more desperately in this destiny/ Wild eyes of your existence/ Girl, you’re my favorite.” Characterized by anthemic trap, the dance break in “Favorite (Vampire)” kicks off followed by heavy trap beats.

The song also portrays the NCT127 members understated sexiness. ‘Favourite (Vampire)’ continues to have the unique arrangements from the ‘Sticker’ era with a whistling hook. The track is composed, written, and arranged by Kenzie, who has worked with the group for songs ‘Limitless,’ ‘Punch,’ and ‘Music, Dance.’

The new repackaged version of the album features the 11 songs featured in the original version of ‘Sticker’ along with three additional new tracks, making it a total of 14 tracks. Besides ‘Favorite’ which is the title track, new B-side tracks, ‘Love on the Floor’ and ‘Pilot’ were released alongside.

The year 2021 is going quite hectic and busy for the group as after their Japanese album ‘Loveholic’ released in February, and ‘Sticker’ which was dropped in September, NCT 127 have now released the reissue album ‘Favorite’. The repackaged album is also competing with ‘Sticker’ by getting 1.06 million pre-orders on October 24. NCT 127 are also rumored to be reuniting with their 23 members of NCT.
